University of Wisconsin–Whitewater

The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (UW–Whitewater) is part of the University of Wisconsin System, located in Whitewater, just an hour's drive away from Milwaukee.

When it opened its doors to 39 students on April 21, 1868, it became just the state's second public college. It is a four-year, co-educational, residential college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. This university has a student enrollment of over 11,500.

The school was founded as Whitewater Normal School in 1868. It changed its name to Whitewater Teachers College in 1927. It became Wisconsin State College–Whitewater in 1951 and Wisconsin State University–Whitewater in 1964. After the merger of former University of Wisconsin and the former Wisconsin State Universities in 1971, the school became part the University of Wisconsin System. Since then it has the name of University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.

The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater offers both Graduate and Undergraduate programs. It is divided into 4 colleges – College of Business & Economics, the College of Arts & Communications, College of Education and Professional Studies and College of Letters & Sciences.

Nationally ranked student organizations contribute to the rich campus life at the UW–Whitewater. It has more than 160 campus organizations available to meet the needs and interests of all its students. Student organizations are an integral part of a student's experience.

Through the UW-Whitewater Career & Leadership Development more than 170 student organizations are recognized. All the groups can range from arts programming to ethnic interest groups and more.
